Meet the Maker and our Story

Hi 👋 I'm Melissa - owner and creator of Piccolo Mondo and the My Little Mat. Welcome to my little corner of the internet. Aside from being the face behind Piccolo Mondo, I am a wife to my best friend and very busy mama to the most amazing four kids. They are the true inspiration behind Piccolo Mondo.

Piccolo Mondo was officially born in 2020. Since the moment I became a mom, I have always had a passion for creating a love for learning, crafting and cooking through play in our home.  So when the pandemic struck in the same year that my oldest baby was supposed to start Kindergarten, I understood the assignment.  I realized quickly that my son was not going to have the "first year of school" that I had dreamt of for him.  We prepared ourselves for an unconventional start to school and we turned our kitchen into a kindergarten classroom.  My then 3.5 year old (November baby) was using a computer and going to school virtually from our kitchen table!! I was eager to find ways to make my son feel like he was in "school" and I thought to myself, maybe I can make him a personalized "workspace" to mimic a desk workspace like in school. And thats where it all began.

We eventually weren't just using them for "school" but for so many things at home. We soon realized that our My Little Mats were special and that we wanted to share them with the world. The first few mats we made looked a little different than they do today and after going through a few trial production runs, we eventually perfected the My Little Mat.

Our kids loved their My Little Mats so much and still do today.  They are a staple in our home and we use them for almost everything. The fact that we now get to share our My Little Mats with all of you and the world is such a blessing.

Fun Fact - My sister in law partnered with me through the beginning of Piccolo Mondo's journey while we juggled our event stationery business and all of our children. Three years in and a few more kids later - we mutually decided to divide and conquer; she took over our stationery company and I continue to run with Piccolo Mondo.
